Departure

It’s been hours since yesterday.
The winter sky is so cold and gray,
And all is wet from falling rain.
I’m running out of things to say
Because all of my words just fade.
With your departure seconds away,
Tears roll down my cold wet face,
And you smile at me as if to say:
“Don’t worry, it’ll all be okay.”
But it doesn’t bring me any solace.
Why does it have to be this way?
Gone for months, here for one day!
I’d do anything if only you’d stay,
But your mind has already been made.
I know I’ll see you again someday,
But I can barely stand the wait.
